Bike Engineer School

What is Bike Engineer School?

MIT PN2K organizes Bike Engineer School in the form of a 3-Step Training Process towards becoming an MIT PN2K “Bike Engineer.” Bike Engineer School is for folks interested in learning basic bike repair skills and advancing their current repair skills through on-going practice. You will get your hands dirty!

How long is Bike Engineer School?

MIT PN2K Bike Repair School is comprised of three sessions:

Step 1) Learning
Step 2) Practice, practice, practice
Step 3) Applying your skills (under professional supervision)

The first Bike Repair School was held in Dec 2017 and completed in April 2018. Future sessions may have differing timelines.

Who teaches Bike Engineer School?

For each step, we hire a professional mechanic. In some cases like when we lead multiple Step 2 practice sessions, we might have a bike savvy volunteer supervising. These professionals and cycling gurus train prospective Bike Engineers on real technical issues.

What happens after completing Bike Engineer School?

Attendees who successfully complete Bike Engineer School receive a completion certificate. Bike Engineers are selected to hold office hours, so they can begin mastering the art of bike repair with hands-on practice.

How levels work

There are three levels that Bike Engineers can reach: Entry, Intermediate, and Expert. These rankings are based upon a combination of factors including:

– Number of workshops held (or assisted)
– Number of people helped
– Type of help
– Skill level
– Miscellaneous
