City Biking

Do you like biking in the city? Do you want to bike around but haven't started because you don't think it's safe? A lot of this can be resolved by meeting cyclists who know how to bike and are willing to bike with you. MIT PN2K consists of people who come to our bike repair events and are frequent commuters by bike. Joining our club is a great way to meet them.

Why ride?

Why not! There's nothing like riding together on a beautiful day in wonderful company. Come for the bike ride and stay for the community. Read more about all our bike rides here.

How fast do you ride?

Most of our rides are casual (not competitive or race speed) and pass through different routes each ride. Our rides are meant to help riders build confidence on the road and apply road rules they learn at Bike Safety Charm School or a workshop. After our rides, you can expect knowing how to safely use bike lanes and signaling to cars that you are making turns or merging into lanes.

What if I don't know the rules of the road?

MIT PN2K occasionally organizes casual bike rides around town for beginners so they can feel more comfortable biking in the city. Before we start, we go over briefly the rules of the road and give you tips and tricks that you can apply immediately. We obey all traffic rules, so how you ride with us is how you would normally ride on the road by yourself. Our rides are meant to give you more confidence and a familiarity with urban transportation and cycling routes in Boston. We usually meet at MIT.

Where do you meet?

Past rides usually start somewhere on the MIT Campus. Organizers of the bike ride will indicate meeting location.

Who can plan bike rides?

Bike trips are planned by the leaders (trips for shopping at the nearest supermarket, recreational for exercising along the Esplanade, social to Salem, etc.), or unofficially organized by participants.

What if my bike has problems? Can I join?

Your bike must be in safe riding condition for you to join (e.g., working brakes). Use good judgement! Do not bring a bike with a flat tire to the ride! At the sole discretion of bike leaders, cyclists might receive quick maintenance on their bikes, including oiling of chains, simple brake adjustments, etc. If your bike is in poor condition, you might consider bringing your bike to a local shop, our next bike event, go to PN2K office hours, and hop on our next ride! If you would like some simple bike maintenance services before our bike ride, you need to be a current PN2K member

Bike Waiver

All cyclists, before bike rides, must sign our waiver to participate.
